Cynthia Loyst and Josie Dye

In a world where societal norms often dictate what we should and shouldn’t talk about, there’s a quiet revolution happening, led by two fearless women – Cynthia Loyst and Josie Dye.

As the creators of Cynthia & Josie’s Unmentionables Podcast, they’ve embarked on a journey to unearth taboos, explore the intimate, and empower women through sharing their most unmentionable stories.

Cynthia Loyst, a seasoned television host and bestselling author, and Josie Dye, a veteran radio personality, found themselves drawn together during the pandemic when their families formed a close bubble.

Through months of close conversations over wine, they uncovered a common thread: the reluctance that many women feel in sharing their deepest, most personal stories. It was this realization that sparked the creation of their podcast, where they have since been creating content dedicated to breaking down barriers and speaking candidly about topics such as sex, desire, grief, fantasy, and body image.

The podcast’s first episode was one that almost didn’t see the light of day…on the topic of hemorrhoids. This set the tone for what was to come – raw, honest, and often hilarious conversations that leave no stone unturned.

From discussing the intricacies of cheating to exploring the world of sexual fantasies, Cynthia and Josie fearlessly share their own experiences alongside expert guests, inviting listeners to embrace their own “unmentionables” without shame or judgment.

Throughout their journey, Cynthia and Josie have tackled a wide range of subjects, from lighthearted and playful to deeply personal. They’ve interviewed experts like Dr. Dylan Selterman, who shed light on the psychology of cheating, and Lucas DeMann, co-author of “Yes, Please,” a book on sexual fantasies who explained what our erotic imaginings say about us.

They’ve also engaged in meaningful conversations like the one they had with Jane Doe #4, who bravely shared her harrowing encounter with Danny Masterson, and activist and writer Kathleen Newman-Bremang, who insightfully dissected the history of the term “Karen.”

From general nervousness to full-blown panic attacks, Cynthia and Josie have also dived into their anxious natures and shared secret stories about how they have managed to (sort of) work through them and create successful careers in the public realm.

The co-hosts have also opened up about their struggles with body image and disordered eating when they connected with style expert and curve advocate Meredith Shaw, as well as Sports Illustrated queer model Lauren Chan who gave wise words on how we can all learn to love ourselves better.

If you’ve ever wondered if there’s a way to guarantee that your partner would never, ever stray, it turns out there are certain things that monogamous long-term couples do, and Dr. Lucia O’Sullivan from The University of New Brunswick shared what she has learned about love, sex, and monogamy from speaking with hundreds of couples.

Perhaps the most resonant episode was when Cynthia shared her own experience with having to take time away from her job as a co-host on CTV’s The Social when she experienced burnout in the fall of 2023. In a raw and emotional account, she revealed how she had previously dismissed the concept until it consumed her own life. Her journey towards healing, accompanied by insights from author Amelia Nagoski who wrote a book on the same subject, sparked a wave of support from women who saw themselves reflected in her story.

What sets Cynthia & Josie’s Unmentionables apart is the authenticity of their friendship. Despite knowing each other for just a few years, their bond is palpable. They infuse each episode with warmth and humor. Whether recounting embarrassing anecdotes or delving into more serious topics like sexual assault and burnout, their genuine connection creates a safe space for women to laugh, cry, and share in each other’s experiences.

As Cynthia and Josie continue to explore the uncharted territory of the unmentionable, they remain committed to uplifting and empowering women everywhere. They remind us that our most vulnerable moments are what make us truly human. Even the worst, most unmentionable embarrassing moments can be transformative and character-building. At the very least, they are also bloody funny.

Whether it’s navigating the complexities of motherhood, overcoming trauma, or simply finding the courage to be ourselves, the podcast is a reminder that we’re all in this together. So here’s to Cynthia & Josie’s Unmentionables – as hilarious as it is heartfelt, as outrageous as it is insightful.

In a world that often tells us to keep our deepest secrets hidden away, Cynthia and Josie are leading the charge in celebrating the messy, the awkward, and the utterly human. And for that, we’re eternally grateful.
